The Device

A wrist-worn call button built for patient safety

The Wrist PIT nurse call system is a compact, lightweight duress device that patients wear on their wrist using a 25mm antimicrobial strap. When they need help, they simply press the clearly labelled “CALL” button. The system instantly alerts nursing staff to the patient’s exact location, no matter where in the facility the patient is at the time.

A two-colour LED on the device gives patients and staff instant feedback: green means the call has been sent and the battery is in good health, while red signals that the battery needs to be replaced soon. This keeps the device ready and dependable at all times.

Designed for How Care Happens Across Healthcare Settings

With over 30 years of experience in healthcare safety, Pinpoint builds solutions designed for real care environments, helping providers improve response times, visibility, and overall patient safety across departments and patient care settings.

The Gap Between Patient Movement and System Coverage

Patients don’t stay in one place, but most patient nurse call systems are built around fixed locations, creating gaps in communication when patients move beyond the bedside.

The Problem

Why Traditional Nurse Call Systems Leave Patients Without Coverage

Understanding the Limits of Traditional patient Call Systems

Most patient nurse call systems are built around fixed locations. The moment a patient moves – to the hallway, bathroom, or shared space – that communication breaks down.

Limited Access to Help Beyond the Bedside

Patients cannot access a nurse call button when they move to hallways, bathrooms, or shared spaces, leaving them without a way to request assistance during critical moments.

Delayed Response When Patients Are Mobile

When patients are outside fixed coverage areas, alerts may be delayed or missed, increasing the time it takes for staff to respond.

Gaps in Visibility Across Patient Movement

Care teams lack real-time awareness when patients move beyond monitored zones, making it harder to respond quickly and consistently.

Key Features

Patient nurse call system re-imagined.

The standard for wearable patient safety across the US

Every detail of the duress button has been shaped by the realities of healthcare and care home settings, from hygiene requirements to ease of use under pressure.

Instant alert, any location

Patients do not need to be near a fixed wall button. The Wrist PIT works anywhere within the facility, allowing patients to move freely.

Antimicrobial wrist strap

The 25mm strap is treated with Biomaster antimicrobial protection, reducing the spread of bacteria in clinical environments.

LED reassurance feedback

A clear green or red light tells the patient their call was received and confirms the battery status at a glance, with no guesswork.

Compatible with existing nurse call systems

The Wrist PIT works with your current Pinpoint legacy system, including fixed wall buttons and display units. No full system replacement is needed.

Simple one-button operation

The large membrane button is clearly marked and easy to press, making it accessible for elderly patients or those with limited dexterity.

Battery low warning

Once the battery drops below a safe level, the LED flashes red continuously until replaced, so the device is never unknowingly out of service.

Centralized call management

An LCD panel located in the nurses' station will display all active patient calls. Multiple displays can be used in other locations if required.

Send alerts to your PC or laptop

Our PC Alert software will securely route patient-nurse calls to any computer. The computer can be located anywhere as long as you have access to the internet.

A lifeline between patients and nurses.

There’s a certain comfort level that patients get knowing help is available at the push of a button. And perhaps more importantly, it provides patients with a lifeline in the event of an emergency. That’s why patient nurse call systems are required by state codes and mandated by the Joint Commission. Traditional nurse call systems provide a rudimentary way for a patient to request help from their bed. Because of their limited functionality, these systems tend to be frustrating to your patients and your staff.

A better experience for your patients & staff.

Our technology improves communication between patients and nurses. With more ways to call for help and more ways to receive alerts, your staff will be happier and more effective. Your patients will be safer, and your patient satisfaction and experience scores will improve. It also helps ensure requests are not missed as patients move throughout the facility, giving staff better visibility into patient needs across different care areas.

Why It Matters

A Lifeline Between patients and Nurses

Patients feel safer

Patients feel safer knowing help is one button away. The Wrist PIT puts that button on their wrist, not just at their bedside. When a patient falls in a bathroom or hallway, fixed wall buttons offer no protection, which is why state codes and the Joint Commission mandate patient nurse call systems. Traditional systems rely on fixed buttons, but the Wrist PIT closes the gap.

A better experience for your staff

Our technology improves communication between patients and nurses. With the Wrist PIT, patients have more ways to call for help, and staff receive alerts on displays, pagers, or mobile devices. Your staff will be happier and more effective. Your patients will be safer, and your patient satisfaction and experience scores will improve.

Improved Response Times

Staff reach patients faster, whether in rooms or corridors

Higher Patient Satisfaction

Patients feel safer and more supported throughout their stay

Compliance Confidence

Meets Joint Commission standards and state-level requirements

How It Works

From button press to staff response in seconds

Step 1

Patient initiates a request

The patient presses a wearable device or a nurse call button, whether they are in their room, hallway, or another area within the facility.

Step 2

The system identifies the location

The request is associated with the patient’s location, giving staff immediate context about where assistance is needed.

Step 3

Alerts are sent to staff

Notifications are delivered through configured channels, including mobile devices, visual indicators, or audible alerts.

Step 4

Staff respond to the request

Care team members can quickly acknowledge and respond, without relying solely on a central station.

Step 5

Activity is recorded and tracked

The system logs requests and responses, allowing teams to review activity and understand response patterns.

1

Patient presses the CALL button on their wrist

The patient presses the large membrane button. The green LED lights up to confirm the call has been sent. The patient does not need to point the device at anything.

2

The signal is picked up by the nearest receiver unit

Receiver units fitted in the ceiling pick up the infrared signal from up to 10 metres away. They are spaced no more than 20 metres apart across the facility, ensuring full coverage.

3

Staff are alerted with the exact location

Display units, pagers, mobile apps, and PCs all show the patient's precise location and the nature of the call. Staff are alerted in under 85 milliseconds from the moment the button is pressed.

4

Staff respond and reset the call

Once the situation is handled, the call is reset from the display unit or via the app. Every call is automatically logged with location, time and date for review.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the Wrist PIT work with our existing nurse call system?

The Wrist PIT is designed as a wearable extension to your current Pinpoint legacy system. It works alongside fixed wall buttons and display units. No full system replacement is needed. Patients simply press the CALL button on their wrist, and the alert is routed through your existing infrastructure.

What is the benefit of a wearable nurse call system over fixed buttons?

Fixed buttons only work at the bedside. A wearable system like the Wrist PIT allows patients to call for help wherever they are, including hallways, bathrooms, gardens, and communal areas. This reduces gaps in communication and helps staff respond faster when patients are away from their bed.

Does the system meet healthcare compliance requirements in the US?

Yes. Pinpoint's wearable nurse call system is designed to meet the communication and response requirements associated with Joint Commission standards and state level regulations. It supports both patient safety and staff protection in healthcare environments across the United States.

How is the Wrist PIT different from a traditional patient call button?

Traditional call buttons are mounted on walls or bedsides. The patient must be physically near that fixed point to request help. The Wrist PIT removes that limitation. It stays on the patient's wrist, so assistance follows them anywhere within your facility.

Can the Wrist PIT be used across different healthcare settings?

Yes. It is suitable for hospitals, care homes, mental health facilities, and residential rehab centres. Any environment where patients move beyond the bedside and still need access to assistance will benefit from the Wrist PIT.

How are patient requests tracked and monitored?

The system records key details for every call, including when the request was made, where it originated (exact location), and when it was reset. This gives care teams better visibility into response activity across your facility. All data is logged automatically for review.
